Back in 2021, our founder was working as an independent contractor. When tax season hit, it was a nightmare. The "system" consisted of a shoebox of fading receipts, three different credit cards, and a massive feeling of dread.

He panic-purchased a $30/month subscription to a massive accounting software company. But the software required connecting bank feeds that broke every week, and had terrifying modules like "Accounts Receivable Aging" and "Inventory Depreciation" that a solo writer absolutely did not need.

So, he cancelled the subscription and built a Google Sheet. It was ugly at first, but it worked. Over the next three years, he refined it, added quarterly tax estimation algorithms, and aligned the categories perfectly with IRS Schedule C.

When fellow freelancers saw it, they begged for copies. That's when Freelance Tax Sheets was born.
